Biology Students Get Eye-Opening Lesson

Science classes can sometimes be hard for a student to understand because he or she can't see what the book is talking about. To help her students gain better understanding of anatomy and physiology at Wauconda High School, biology teacher Michelle Morris decided to take her Biology II and Advanced Placement Biology classes on a field trip to see a human body and its organs. On Feb. 11, she and her classes traveled to the National University of Health Sciences, a medical school for chiropractic studies, in Lombard, where they were able to see a cadaver.

"The students attended a lecture and a lab on gross anatomy," said Morris. "In the lecture, a doctor discussed chiropractics, acupuncture, and eastern medicine. In the lab, four students got to assist the doctor with the dissection. All students were given the opportunity to look at and touch the different organs."

Many students that went on the trip really enjoyed the experience.

"It was interesting," said junior Josh Zarate. "My favorite part was exploring the body cavity and
